acid reflux symptomsThe regurgitation of the stomach’s liquid content into the esophagus is called Acid Reflux. You really don’t see it because it happens inside the body, but you can surely feel the Acid Reflux symptoms.

Isolated instances of suffering from Acid Reflux symptoms due to stress, tight clothing and eating a very large meal to name a few, can be considered harmless. But Acid Reflux symptoms when experienced on a regular and continuous occurrence can be a sign of a more dangerous health problem.

Before we all get worried and anxious if we have an underlying medical condition and all, we must first establish if the sensations we are experiencing are really Acid Reflux symptoms.

Perhaps the most common of Acid Reflux symptoms is Heartburn. Heartburn is the distinct pain we feel when Acid Reflux happens inside our body. It is usually described as a burning sensation in the middle chest area. For some people however, instead of the usual burning sensation what they feel is a sharp, pressure-like pain similar to Angina (heart pain).

How does Acid Reflux lead to Heartburn? Stomach acids ebb back into the esophagus stimulating the nerve fibers, and thus, resulting to heartburn. The pain may begin up in the abdomen extending to the neck and for others even to the back.

Acid reflux is most common during digestion so heartburn usually happens after meals. Also, heartburn is most likely to occur when one is lied down as reflux occurs more easily and the acids flows back to the stomach much slowly.

Another symptom of Acid Reflux is the characteristic sour or bitter taste in the mouth. This unpleasant taste may occur when the contents of the stomach reflux way up into the esophagus and reaches the back of the throat.

The next symptom, Nausea, may be in connection to the sour or bitter taste in the mouth. The unpleasant taste had become so terrible that it has become nauseating and for some people it may even result to vomiting.

Coughing, wheezing and other Asthma-like symptoms are also possible to be caused by Acid Reflux. Studies have even proved that there is a significant link between Acid Reflux and Asthma. In fact, a majority of people suffering from Acid Reflux Disease have Asthma, too.

Acid Reflux affects Asthma in this way, when stomach acids refluxes into the esophagus and then is aspirated into the airways and lungs, it can make breathing difficult and cause the patient to wheeze and cough.

Acid Reflux symptoms may lead to complications if left untreated. It may occur occasionally due to a lot of reasons and causes but if the instances are frequent and severe it is advisable to consult a doctor to be able to find out if there’s something more serious behind it.
